A stage not particularly long but with a demanding elevation gain: from Lake Garda you climb up to the top of Altissimo, almost 2000 meters higher. But once at the top, the view is unforgettable.
From up there, the panorama is very vast and allows you to find the landscapes of previous stages: the Lobbie Glacier, the Carè Alto, the Cadria, the Pichèa... up to a good part of Lake Garda, which opens wide at our feet.
From Nago-Torbole it is possible to skip the next three stages (refuge Chiesa at Altissimo, Polsa, Mori) and head directly to Ronzo Chienis, climbing the western ridge of Monte Creino on path 637 until joining (at 1000 m altitude) the trail of stage no. 14.

Safety Tips
1. Choose routes according to your physical and technical abilities, getting information about the area to visit, the usability of the trails, and equipping yourself with an appropriate hiking map.
2. Provide clothing and equipment suitable for the effort and length of the hike and carry in your backpack what is needed for possible emergency situations and a first aid kit.
3. It is advisable not to undertake a mountain hike alone. In any case, tell someone the itinerary you plan to follow, informing them of your return.
4. Check the weather forecast and constantly observe the weather development.
5. In doubt, turn back. Sometimes it is better to give up rather than find yourself in difficulties due to bad weather or because you tackled difficulties beyond your strength, skills, or equipment.
6. Avoid unnecessarily leaving the path or taking shortcuts.
7. All routes listed develop in a natural environment. Walking them means accepting the risk of practicing a sport in nature.

It is impossible to completely avoid inaccuracies or imprecisions, considering the rapidity of environmental or meteorological changes that may occur. It is recommended, however, to check before undertaking a hike the state of places and environmental or weather conditions.
Leaving the center of Nago, we cross a wide plateau cultivated with vineyards, nestled between the mountains; then, we take path 601 to begin our long ascent. We gradually gain altitude on a well-lit surface, skirting a grove affected by fire; we often look out over the old military positions, and there are also open views of Monte Brione.
Arriving at Doss dei Frassini, we briefly walk on the asphalt road (along which we come across Malga Zures) before returning to path 601, which gradually ascends, always in the shade of the forest. From Malga Casina the path becomes increasingly steep and regularly cuts across the ridges of the asphalt road. At kilometer 7.5 of the stage, having emerged among the houses, we must climb a steep asphalt road, fully exposed to the sun, and this is probably the most challenging (though short) section of the day.
We return to the path and cross a large parking lot, where the road ends; continuing uphill, shortly after we overlook a large grassy basin, the Val del Parol, which seems like the perfect spot for a snack. To the south, higher than us, we see a large square transmitter, which roughly coincides with our destination.
We continue, now out of the woods, skirting the eastern slopes of Monte Varagna (for the more willing, the summit hosts old military walkways and offers a remarkable view) and ascending a small ridge covered with dwarf pines. On its summit we enjoy a brief flat stretch to catch our breath before the final climb. Path 601 ends with a climb through the dwarf pines, emerging on the irregular summit, with the refuge and, not far away, a chapel and the summit cross of Monte Altissimo (2079 meters).
The main centers of Garda Trentino - Riva del Garda, Arco, Torbole sul Garda, Nago - are connected by several urban and suburban bus lines, which allow you to reach the access points to the routes.

Mountain hikes require specific clothing and equipment. Even for relatively short and easy outings, it is always better to be well equipped to avoid unpleasant surprises and to face unexpected situations such as, for example, a sudden thunderstorm or energy drop.
What to bring for a mountain trekking?
In the backpack (for a day hike usually a 25/30L pack is recommended) it is good to bring:
Wear footwear suitable for the route and the season. The trail surface can be uneven or rough and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains. A grassy slope, a rock slab or a steep path, if wet, can become dangerous without proper footwear.
Finally... don't forget the camera! It will be useful to capture the hike and the countless breathtaking views that Garda Trentino hides at every corner. If you want to share your memories with us, you can use the hashtag #GardaTrentino
The emergency number is 112.
The first stretch of the path walking uphill from Nago is closed for maintenance of the Segrom climbing area. To reach Monte Altissimo you need to follow the asphalt road (Strada del Monte Baldo) to Malga Zures and take the SAT 601 path from there.
